Truckee

Mountain Sports and Living voted Truckee, “One of The Best 10 Mountain Towns in America,” and once people visit, they know why. With an elevation of 6,000 feet, Truckee is a gem of a town with awe inspiring views of the high Sierra Nevada Mountains. The town hosts numerous seasonal events intriguing both locals and visitors alike. Truckee’s Historic Downtown recently received sidewalk enhancements, making outdoor eating a norm during the warmer seasons. It’s also a spot to stroll for shopping, dining, listening to music, wine tasting, watching the train go by, and perusing the Truckee Donner Visitor’s Center.
Over 10 ski areas are located within 45 minutes from Truckee; eight of the 10 are only 15 miles away from downtown (i.e. Squaw Valley, Northstar, Tahoe Donner, Boreal…) Truckee encompasses numerous neighborhoods including Sierra Meadows, Ponderosa Palisades, Tahoe Donner, Donner, Old Greenwood, Gray’s Crossing, Martis Camp, Lahontan, Schaffer’s Mill, Northstar, Glenshire/Devonshire…to name a few. Each one is unique in its own way, but what they share is Truckee’s many treasures – dirt and paved running and biking trails, lakes, a gorgeous regional park and recreation center, campgrounds, an outdoor theatre and much more. The Truckee downtown area is the business hub of the High Sierra, as well as the transportation center for the district. It’s located 185 miles east of San Francisco, 15 miles north of Lake Tahoe and only 34 miles west of Reno NV.
